Art in the street 2018 ShilohThe Heartland Artists Gallery is gearing up for their 5th annual Art in the Street Festival. The event will take place this Saturday, June 23rd, from 10-3 in downtown Plymouth.

Artists and artisans from surrounding areas will be selling their works, including acrylic & watercolor paintings, sculptures, etchings, drawings, pottery, handmade jewelry, stained glass, photography and much more. Repurposed & renewed items, Rees Theater seats, and the Plymouth Public Library’s Book Bike will be available to visitors, as will new booths such as the Frame Shoppe, Edible Michiana, and Marshall County Tourism.

Many of the artists will be demonstrating their skills, and kids and adults will have several opportunities to try their hand at some of the art. Discover Plymouth will be sponsoring Aaram Kamali, an artist who will perform a live mural in the Alley Gallery; Kathy Zentz and Christa Risher will assist on the potter’s wheel; Encore Performing Arts will guide kids in making windchimes; and Marshall County Tourism will host an interactive kids’ activity. And, for the first time, kids will get to meet Samantha, the Therapy Dog, and create art with her 3 ½- inch wide by 4 ½-inch long paw prints.

Art in the street 2018Art in the Street would not be complete without musical and dance performances. Every hour, local individuals and groups will perform on stage and include: Jeff Utterbrink, Lifeplex Dance Academy, Maxincuckee Players, Sentimental Journey, The Rose Hips, Twins at Play, and Meg Robinson.

Food and drink are also considered an art form and will be available for purchase at the festival. This year, Yolanda’s will be serving delicious grilled steak and chicken tacos along with Horchata; Sugar Shack Bakery and La D’zert Café will serve beautiful, sweet and savory foods; LaParilla Caliente Mexican Restaurant of Bremen will have Chicken Fajitas, Rice, and Chips; Heartland Artists will be selling snacks and drinks; and a beer and wine tent will house Schnabeltier Wine & Cheese of Rochester along with 10-56 Brewery of Knox for tastings and full portions.

Anna Kietzman, President of the Heartland Artists Gallery, states: “We are really looking forward to this year’s event. Just since last year, the festival has nearly doubled in size with new vendors. Art, kids’ activities, music, food, beer and wine- it’s such a fun, family-friendly day in Downtown, and there will be something here for nearly everyone. We hope to see lots of community members and visitors enjoying, supporting, and helping grow this event. Addtionally, this is the perfect day to head Downtown- Farmers’ Market in the morning, Art in the Street during the day, and the Summer Sippin’ Brewfest Saturday evening. Downtown Plymouth is becoming quite the destination.”
