04/01/11 Plymouth Utilities Superintendent, Donnie Davidson wants citizens to be aware of the unidirectional water main flushing that begins April first and will continue until April 15th.  The city Water Department will be performing a unidirectional water main flushing of the distribution system in the northwest section (section #1) of the city.

The purpose of the flushing is to scour and clean the inside of the water mains removing mineral deposits and related debris.  The flushing will be performed during daylight hours.  The program could create lower than normal water pressure and some discolored water in the service lines for short periods of time.  It is recommended if the discoloring of your water occurs to run the cold water for 5 to 10 minutes.  If the brown water persists or if you have questions call the Plymouth Water Department. 936-2543.

The boundaries of section #1 are Hoham Drive on the north, Pioneer Drive on the west, West Jefferson Street on the south and Michigan Street on the east.

Davidson told Board of Public Works and Safety members that the first section will take approximately two weeks to complete.  The second section will also take two weeks while the final third section will take approximately 4 weeks.

Previously the city hired a company to do the unidirectional flushing at a cost of thousands of dollars.
