County News # 1Jason Peters, Superintendent of the County Highway Department presented members of the County Council with a letter to INDOT for the Community Crossing Matching Grant for 2019.

The request is for $997,500 with the county’s match being $332,500 bringing the total project cost to $1,330,000.  The local match will be paid from the Local Road and Street, Motor Vehicle Highway or other funds that may be available.

Projects being submitted are:  Dogwood Road from US 6 to the County Line ($433,000); 11th Road from US 31 to South Michigan Road ($159,000); North Michigan Road from the Plymouth city limits to Veterans Parkway ($273,000); Dogwood Road from State Road 331 to US6 ($203,000) and 9B Road from Union Road to the County Line (262,000).

The County Council approved signing the letter to INDOT for the Community Crossing Grant application.  The Commissioners will be presented with the same letter at their meeting on Monday, January 21st.

Council president, Judy Stone asked if there were the same projects presented in the grant application late last fall and Peters said yes.

Councilwoman Penny Lukenbill asked if there were any indication why the county wasn’t selected in the first round and Peters said there was nothing wrong with the projects on the application submitted.  He said the only thing they said was try and get it in as-soon-as-possible.

Commissioner Kevin Overmyer said there was $160 million available in the first round and there were $270 million in requests.
