Jim SmartAs Marshall County Democrats gathered Tuesday evening at Yolanda’s, they were hoping to have some success with the slate of candidates they offered for the general election.  Not only were they unsuccessful, they heard news from the County Chairman that was disappointing.

Jim Smart announced that he is resigning his position as chairman of the Democratic Party in Marshall County.

In a release to WTCA Smart said, “My resignation as the Marshall County Democratic Chairman came after several months of deep thought and prayers. A little over 2 weeks ago, I let the officers of our local party know that I was stepping down as chairman to concentrate on my studies as I pursue my goal to be ordained as a Deacon in the Episcopal Church.  I told everyone on election night, I was hoping my announcement would be bittersweet and we would have some victories to celebrate, however, that was not the case.”

Smart continued his comments saying, “The past 4 years as chairman have been both challenging and rewarding.  Hopefully, I was able to leave the party with a template to follow. To continue with the energy and dedication they have shown, and to keep the party strong as we look towards the future.  There are so many great, young minds who are involved. I am certain they will take on the challenge and continue to work hard and make the party even better.”
