national Manufacturing DayNational Manufacturing Dayalways occurs the first Friday in October, this year that was October 5th.  The National event is a celebration of modern manufacturing meant to inspire the next generation of manufacturers.

Manufacturing Day is an incredible opportunity to showcase the amazing work manufacturers do on a daily basis and to educate students, community members, media and policymakers on how integral manufacturing is to the local, national and global economy.
On Wednesday, October 10th and Thursday the 11th, twenty-four Marshall County businesses will host tours for area high school students from Argos, Bremen, Culver and Plymouth as they celebrate Manufacturing Day. Approximately 900 students will participate in the day–long event, having the chance to visit three different manufactures.

Jerry Chavez, Executive Director and CEO of the Marshall County Economic Development Corporation said, “Local manufacturers will open their doors to showcase their businesses and foster interest in manufacturing careers to high school students. Marshall County has participated in Manufacturing Day over the last few years, and this year is the biggest yet. With four schools, 900 students, and 24 businesses participating, students will be able to learn about an unprecedented variety of local employers and explore potential career paths.”

Hoosier Tire in Plymouth is participating in Manufacturing Day.  Their event notice said, “This opportunity gives students a unique look at how a race tire is produced from beginning to end. The tour will flow from raw material coming in the door, to production, testing and the tire being shipped to the warehouse. Students will learn the types of positions that we hire for in our facility such as production workers, process engineers, design engineers, IT, HR, Maintenance, etc.”

Other manufactures participating include: ITAMCO, CTE Solutions, Valmont, Homestead Dairy, Pretzels, Inc.; WestRock, Miller’s Marry Manor, Saint Joe Health Systems, Pregis, and A.K. Industries.
