fatal-crashOn Wednesday, August 2, just before three in the afternoon, emergency personnel in Fulton County were dispatched to the area of State Road 17 north of Fulton County Road 400 North for a single vehicle roll over accident with ejection.

The preliminary investigation shows a 2005 Chrysler passenger car driven by Robert G. Cooper, age 37 of rural Kewanna, was traveling northbound on SR 17 and left the right side of the roadway for unknown reasons and rolled several times before coming to rest on the east side of SR 17.  As a result, Mr. Cooper was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced deceased on scene by medical personnel.  Preliminary cause of death is due to blunt force trauma to the head.   Mr. Cooper was not wearing a seat belt.

Fulton County Sheriff Chris Sailors believes if Mr. Cooper was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash he would have survived the crash. The crash is still under investigation by Trooper Todd Trottier of the Indiana State Police Peru Post.

Assisting the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department in the investigation are Fulton County 911 Dispatch, Indiana State Police, Aubbeenaubbee Fire Department, Lutheran EMS and Fulton County Coroner.
