County News_logoCaptain Dan Butt with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department requested permission to fill 2 vacancies for turnkey/dispatches during Monday’s commissioner meeting.  Officer Butt said Brooke Large is moving from full time to part time and another employee was terminated.  Butt noted that in September Gene Painton is scheduled to retire so he would be back to fill that position.   His request was approved.

Marshall County Clerk Debbie VanDeMark told commissioners that an employee in her office has transferred to another department so she needed to fill the vacancy.  The Commissioners approve the request. Begin the process of

Marshall County Prosecutor Nelson Chipman was also granted approval to begin the hiring position for the director of Victim’s Assistant.  The current employee has resigned effective this Friday.  She has been in the position for approximately 10 years and with the county for 12.

In a related issue, Councilwoman Judy Stone who serves on the personnel committee presented their recommendation to terminate the police of requesting to fill budgeted vacancies by department heads and elected personnel.

Not originally in the county handbook, the police was implemented during a period of financial strain to assist the council and commissioners in being sure funds were available to keep the position. When the new handbook was created it was included.

The personnel committee discussed the police and felt that the already budget position could be filled at the department heads desire.

Council members liked being informed and wanted to be sure funding was available for the position.

A motion to accept the recommendation of the personnel committee  died for lack of a second.
