IMG_3034 (2)WHEATFIELD, IN – Kankakee Valley High School senior Kaitlyn Boomsma recently signed her National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Letter of Intent to play softball at Ancilla College.

Boomsma, a catcher for the Kougars, will earn her fifth overall varsity letter this spring, it will be her second in softball. Her other three letters were in volleyball, earning the most improved award in 2014. Boomsma is also active in travel ball, competing with the Crown Point Bulldogs this fall and summer. Outside of athletics, she has been on the academic honor roll from 2011-2014, has earned state solo & ensemble gold medals in 2012 & 2013, was named Kankakee Valley High School top welder in the 2012-2013 school year, was Welding Club vice president in the 2013-2014 school year, and earned Student of the Month honors in Technology, as well.

When asked about her decision to attend Ancilla, Boomsma stated, “I liked the small, hometown feel.”

“Kaitlyn will be a tremendous asset to our team next year,” began Ancilla coach Scott Reese. “On a team that returns only one catcher, we will definitely need skills her behind the plate. Kaitlyn is a well-rounded young lady and I am looking forward to seeing her continued growth here at Ancilla. I am excited that she has decided to become part of the Ancilla softball family.”

While at Ancilla, Boomsma, the daughter of Rod and Lisa Boomsma of Wheatfield, plans on earning a Criminal Justice degree.
