For a change, it was sunny. But throw in the cold and wind to impact players for the Plymouth tennis opener at John Glenn. The Pilgrims were able to sweep singles and doubles competition in the 5-0 victory.

Singles:

Annie Plothow (P) beat Kelsey Yelaska 6-2, 6-2

Tynley Gantz (P) beat Vivian Stephens 6-0, 6-0

Izzie Wray (P) beat Kailee Kulp 6-1, 6-0

Doubles:

Emma Jackson-Cassidy Riddle (P) beat Morgan Gill-Nora Guisella 6-0, 6-0

Lena Houin-Ailvia Kizer (P) beat Maddy Whitmer-Trinity Stackman 6-0, 6-1

Four Pilgrims earned their first varsity match win: senior Izzie Wray at #3 singles, junior Emma Jackson (who paired with senior Cassidy Riddle) at #1 doubles, and the senior duo of Lena Houin and Alivia Kizer at #2 doubles.

Junior Tynley Gantz won her match at #2 singles without losing a game. Meanwhile, Annie Plothow began her senior campaign at #1 singles with a nice straight-set win to lead the Pilgrims.

“After a rough week of weather and indoor practices, we were excited to get outside and play our first match against a different opponent. Our group has really been working hard in practices to improve our tennis strokes / games, and hopefully that improvement will show as our match schedule gets really busy. Overall, we have a great group of kids, and I’m excited for this team and what we can accomplish this season,” said head coach Brad Haeck.

Plymouth will host West Lafayette in a varsity / junior varsity dual match Saturday, at 10:30 a.m. at the Mary Beth Hunter Tennis Complex.
