Rex Crump files for MayorOn Friday former Plymouth Police Officer, Rex Crump tossed his hat into the ring and will run for Mayor of the City of Plymouth on the Democratic tickets.

Crump graduated from Culver High School and did a tour of duty in Germany with the U.S. Army as a platoon sergeant over five tanks and twenty men.  When he returned he worked at McCords for a year and then in 1968 started with the Plymouth Police Department.  Rex had almost 24 years with the department attaining the rank of 1st Stg, which in the day was considered assistant chief.

At the urging of Chuck Glaub, Crump left the police department in 1992 and successfully ran on the ballot to be Marshall County Clerk of the Courts.  He served one 4-year term and felt that he was cheated at his second term because the country was mad at President Bill Clinton for all his antics and voted democrats out across the nation.

Following his term a Clerk Crump went to work for Tippecanoe County in court security and then was in the U.S. Marshall Deputy Service as court security in South Bend for two years.

Rex Crump has also been a local business man over the many years starting out with Crump Motor Sales, Body Shapers, Manager of the North Gate Trailer Park, and his current business Diamond Management.  For 13 years he’s managed 250 apartments, houses and businesses for Value Properties.

Semi-retired, Crump said he had been urged to run by people of both parties.  He met the members of the Democratic Party late last week and received their blessing and on Friday went to the Clerk’s office and filed the necessary paperwork.

When asked why he wanted to run he said, “It’s not for the prestige, I want to try to bring more jobs and better paying jobs to the county and Plymouth.”  He continued, “We need to attract people to our community and providing good paying jobs so people can prosper will do that.”  Crump said he plans to work with PIDCO (Plymouth Industrial Development Corporation) and the Marshall County Economic Development Corporation to accomplish his goal.
