02/07/11 On Thursday night, the Plymouth School Board awarded a bid of $1,930,000 to Lawmaster Roofing for projects at several schools within the corporation. After inspection of the roofs by Plymouth Maintenance Director Dave Schoof and other consultants, the following projects had been approved at previous meetings: Jefferson Elementary, 80,000 square feet; Lincoln Junior High; and Plymouth High School, 200,000 square feet.
The school corporation will purchase materials off the state government sponsored list at pre-bid lowest cost in the amount of $444,207. The cost of labor and various materials to be supplied by the contractor is $1,930,000. Additional architectural costs of $11,000 bring the total cost to $2,385,207. That figure reflects a cost of $7.45 per square foot.
The budgeted amount for the work had been set at $2,553,798; therefore, bringing the project in at $168,591 under budget.
The board received five bids for the project. According to Assistant Superintendent Dr. Rodger Smith, they determined that the lowest and best bidder was Lawmaster.
Smith said, “Lawmaster has been a very solid contractor for us on recent roofing work.”
The board also ratified a contract for teachers. Included in changes was VEBA language that allowed the continuation of contributions to Security Benefit. Changes in the health insurance stipulates that the district will absorb the cost of a 3 % premium increase for a teacher taking a family policy, a couple of married teachers working for the district will absorb the increase, and teachers taking a single policy will absorb the increase.
Each teacher covered by the master contract will receive a one time $550 stipend; this will not alter the teachers’ salary schedule. Retired teachers who return to work for the district may be hired for a maritimum of $45,000 per year rather than the place they would have on the salary schedule. A teacher or teachers who develop an on-line class ready for delivery will be paid a $1,000 stipend for doing so.
