02/05/14 The Plymouth High School Debate Team finished 9th in the state last Saturday, February 1, at Ben Davis High School.

Sophomore Emily McKenzie was elected President of the Senate earning her a State Championship.  She advanced out of preliminaries to the semi-finals where she earned her spot as the state’s top presiding officer.  She then convened and directed the State Senate finals.  Junior Garrick Nate and freshman Emory Smith also tallied points for the team by advancing to the semi-finals (Indiana’s 36 best compete in the semi-finals) and finishing 9th in their respective semi-final chambers.  Unfortunately, only the top five in each chamber advance to the State Senate finals.  In Policy Debate, Melanie Cooper and Carson Pifer finished 23rd in the state.  Garrett Garver and Maddy Deisch finished 27th in Public Forum Debate and Grace Cupka and Jon Eberly finished 33rd.  Scott Masson rounded out the team with a 36th place finish doing Congress for the first time.

This is the second year in a row the team has finished in the top ten.
