12/18/13  In a game of runs Glenn’s Lady Falcons jumped to a lead and held off Plymouth’s Lady Pilgrims for a win at Plymouth on Tuesday night 42-31.

Glenn stayed unbeaten at 7-0 with the win and executed their game plan keeping ahead of the Lady Pilgrims (6-2) with runs of 14-0 in the first half and a 10-0 run in the fourth quarter after Plymouth was able to pull back within a point in the late parts of that stanza.

“That comes back from last year,” said Glenn head coach Kyle Amor. “Our message last year was respond, respond, respond. We had a habit of getting ourselves in some deficits and we had to come back in the second half. If we don’t respond to runs it’s not going to be a very fun season for us.”

“We had a nice chat at the end of the game we felt that maybe Glenn played with a little more confidence and maybe they were a little bit more aggressive than we were especially offensively,” said Plymouth coach Dave Duncan. “They are a good team and well coached. The kids know their roles really well and execute them very well.”

One player executing very well was Glenn freshman point guard Kyannah Stull. She had 12 points but also three assists and put the ball in solid places on the floor for the Glenn offense to attack.

“Kyanna is an athletic kid she’s a special kid she compliments our other guards so well,” said Amor. “She draws some attention they had (Allie) Wright face guarding her out there and Kyler (Columbia) is our leading scorer so anytime you have to face somebody that isn’t our leading scorer I like our odds.”

“We had some little things like jumping to the ball and I didn’t think our interior defense was very good tonight,” said Duncan. “They got a lot of put backs and flashes right into that block area. Their guard play up front is really good they have three really good guards. I thought we did pretty well on Columbia but their freshman point guard (Stull) has great ball handling skills and I really thought she controlled the game.”

Another player with a solid all around game for Glenn was Loren Vukovits in the post for the Lady Falcons with 12 points and nine rebounds.

“She’s been that way for the last year an a half,” said Amor. “She’s been playing a major role since her freshman year and it’s starting to pay dividends. That’s the player that we see in practice. The first couple of games the stats weren’t there the last couple she’s had a double/double. She is vital to our success.”

Vital to the Plymouth success on the night was their own freshman Nicole Horvath who picked up two quick fouls and was forced to the bench for most of the first half. In just a little more than a half of playing time she had nine ponts and five rebounds and her return in the secon half spurred the late Plymouth run.

“That did hurt us early,” said Duncan. “She has pretty good offensive skills and she has a nose for the ball. We missed that a little bit early on.”

Plymouth has a tough week ahead with a rescheduled game on Thursday night against Warsaw and another NLC game on Saturday with NorthWood. Both games are at home.
