08/15/12 The Heminger House Shelter For Women and Children in Plymouth is reaching capacity and has been at this level for several weeks. As of Tuesday, they had 6 adults and 4 children in the shelter and according to Diane Fisher, Case Manager, they are expecting another family today.
With the amount of people they have in the shelter at this time, comes the need for many perishable items like milk, bread, eggs, cheese, and more.  Fisher said, “Though occasional donations of individual items from great friends in the community that have been very helpful, it is nice to have gift cards on hand to use for perishable items and emergency needs.”   For example Fisher explained like helping to fill new resident’s prescriptions or purchasing school supplies Wal-Mart, K Mart, Martins and Kroger gift cards are very helpful.

Fisher wanted to thank donors in advance for all that you do to help provide a clean, stable and nutritional environment for the little ones and their mothers as they move toward a healthy, independent lifestyle.  She continued, “We would like to thank the community for all of their continued support over the last several years.”

Heminger House is also holding a yard sale fundraiser on Friday, August 17 and Saturday, August 18th from 9am-5pm on South Michigan Street a few blocks south of Felke Florist.

In other news, be watching for their new newsletter to be published soon.  It is their intention to publish a bi-annual spring and fall edition.
