On Thursday, September 1st, at 9:07 in the evening, Marshall County jail staff located an inmate that was unresponsive and later pronounced deceased.

The inmate, identified as Kelly Peterson, age 53, of Culver, was alone in a single bunk cell at the time.

The Indiana State Police were requested to investigate the inmate’s death.  The ISP said preliminary indications point toward suicide. 

An autopsy was performed Friday afternoon. 

Kelly Peterson was arrested on Thursday, August 25th, after Marshall County Police were notified that a representative with the group Bikers Against Predators was in the Culver area and confronted Peterson.

Police were provided messages from a conversation in which Kelly Peterson acknowledged that he was communicating with a 13-year-old female. In the conversation, Peterson requested the juvenile female send him nude photos as well as asked for sex.

Kelly Peterson was taken into custody for the crime of Child Solicitation as a level 5 felony. He was being held in the Marshall County Jail on a $5000 cash bond at the time of his death.
