SONY DSCPLYMOUTH – Friday beginning at 9 a.m., WTCA AM1050/FM106.1 will hold the eighth annual Rockies Football Auction to raise money for the football program at Plymouth High School.

Plymouth High School football moms have been busy collecting auction items in an effort to raise funds to support team activities for all three high school football teams.

“It helps the kids that’s the reason that we do it,” said Tracy Peters who has been a major organizer of the day long auction for its entire existence. “I don’t think anybody realizes how much it takes to feed 100 boys every time they go on the road but that is where most of the money goes.”

Thanks to the generosity of the community they have hundreds of items on the auction block.  The local Wal-Mart store donated a 32-inch Roku TV and a paddleboard for summer enjoyment. There is a Coleman cooler full of goodies from Beacon Credit Union, a painting kit from Sherwin Williams, and a Pro-Health home tooth whitening system from Dr. Thomas Pedavoli.

There are also certificates for food from Ponderosa, Hacienda, Penguin Point and Mancino’s to name a few. Certificates for golfing, oil changes, a car detailing, exercising and more are up for bids.

There are NASCAR collectibles on the block, as well as highway signs, hair care products, apparel, VIP parking for home football and basketball games, and believe it or not — there is actually a new kitchen sink.

Hosts and auctioneers for the event will be WTCA radio personalities Mark Lindsey and Joe McKee, who are also hosts of “As We See It,” an-hour long comedy talk show every Wednesday at 4 p.m. on WTCA. McKee is also the expert commentator on Plymouth football broadcasts.

“I’m really just doing it for the free food during the auction,” laughed McKee.

“We both played football when we were in high school and the Plymouth football team helps out with our charity the Craig Woofington Golf outing,” said Lindsey. “It’s nice to be able to give something back to the football program.”

“(Plymouth head coach) John (Barron) has been really helpful to us in the Rockies Junior Football League too, so I’m happy to do anything I can to help,” added McKee.

“But it really is mostly for the food,” said Lindsey.

If you are interested in bidding, the auction items will be posted on the WTCA website Thursday and bidders should call the radio station (574-936-4096) as soon as possible to secure a bid number for the auction.

All funds raised from the auction help provide the best safety equipment possible for the teams, give each player a sack meal after every away football game, help pay for the senior camping trip and more. WTCA and all those involved with the auction have volunteered their time and services to go with the generous donations that are being auctioned off.

If you would like to donate to the auction, there is still time. Contact Tracy Peters at 574-952-7799.
