Members of the Culver Town Council voted to approve on first reading an ordinance amendment restating and establishing parking regulations in the Town of Culver on August 23rd

Town Manager Ginny Munroe told the council the Culver Community School Corporation had previously asked to town to establish parking restrictions for the drop-off and pickup zone at the elementary school and they have now asked to have that eliminated.  This amendment would remove those restrictions.

Munroe said other changes are in Chapter 73 of the Culver Code of Ordinances under parking schedules. Many of the changes being made are to match the current signage that is posted for parking restrictions.

Reviewing the ordinance shows no parking on either side of Akron Street, no parking on the north side of Batabano Street, while parking will be permitted on College Avenue on the south side from School Street on the west to Lake Shore Drive on the east.  Davis Street will have no parking on the south side from Peru to South Main Street and Forest Place has no parking on the east side from Lake Shore Drive to College Street.

The Culver ordinance shows 2-hour parking from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. shall not be restricted on the north and south sides of Jefferson Street from Ohio Street to Plymouth Street from Friday through Sunday and on holidays.  Liberty Street will allow parking on the west side of the street from Lake Shore Drive to College and no parking on the east side in that same area.  There is no parking on either side of Ohio Street from Washington Street to Lake Shore Drive and no parking on the east side of Ohio Street from Davis Street to Mill Street.

Madison Street in Culver will have 2-hour parking on the north and south side from Ohio Street east to the end at the Cove property from Friday through Sunday and on holidays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Madison Street west of Main Street and in front of the Bed & Breakfast a handicap parking spot will be marked and accessible.

Additional changes are Plymouth Street where no parking is allowed on South Plymouth Street on the west side of the street from Winfield to Davis Street and no parking on either side of the street from Winfield to Hawkins. There is also no parking from Hawkins to Marmont Street.  School Street has no parking on the west sides of the street and no parking on the east side from Lake Shore Drive on the south to a point north of the Culver Elementary School’s pickup point entrance.  There is no parking on the north end of School Street from Academy Road to Highway 10.

Munroe told members one of the new changes is Washington Street with no parking on the south side of Washington from Lake Street to Coolidge Street.  2-hour parking is allowed on the north and south sides of Washington Street from Main to the alley east of Main Street and from Ohio Street to Plymouth Street through Sunday and holidays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The other addition is no parking on either side of Tampa Street.  Munroe said it is a narrow street and with a vehicle parked on the side there would be no room for another vehicle to pass.

The ordinance allows any person determined to be in violation of the Culver ordinance to the standard fines and costs that have been previously adopted by the town council.

The Culver Town Council approved the ordinance amendments on the first reading giving citizens an opportunity to review the changes and comment prior to or at their next meeting.

Munroe said Police Chief Wayne Beam assisted in the determination of the amendments.  She also said to keep in mind that these are the changes to the ordinance.   There are other parking restrictions in the ordinance that haven’t changed and are in effect.
