The Lilly Scholarship Selection Committee, consisting of Beth Styers, Chair, Dr. Don Balka, Scott Joyner, Karen Schlosser, John Small Jr., Jared Weidner and Barbara Winters reviewed 31 applications and interviewed several applicants. Top finalists were recommended to the Board of Directors of the Marshall County Community Foundation and then submitted to Independent Colleges of Indiana (ICI) for final selection of the recipient. ICI is a nonprofit corporation that represents 30 regionally accredited degree granting, nonprofit, private colleges, and universities in the state and administers the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program statewide.
The scholarships are the result of a statewide Lilly Endowment Initiative to help Hoosier students reach higher levels of education. Indiana ranks among the lowest states in the percentage of residents over the age of 25 with a bachelor’s degree. Since the inception there have been 4,912 full-tuition scholars awarded and over $424 million in scholarship tuition has been provided through the LECSP since 1998. There are 143 scholarships awarded this year.
The mission of the Marshall County Community Foundation is to serve all of Marshall County, its people, and its future through the growth and administration of endowment funding and philanthropy.
