Kayak Launch_1Monday evening members of the Plymouth Park Board were notified of the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Kayak/Canoe Launch in River Park Square.

The ceremony will be on Tuesday, September 24th at noon with a representative of the Lt. Governor’s Office attending as well as someone from Patronicity, the civic crowdfunding and crowdgranting platform used to help fund the project by bringing together local citizens and sponsors to support this great initiatives in our community.

Kayak Launch_2Allie Shook from the Plymouth Park Department said the campaign goal of the crowdfunding project was $11,000 and locally $16,510 was raised.  Because the goal was met the  Indiana Housing and Community Development ‘matched’ the goal with a contribution of $11,000.  So, with local money raised and the IHCDA contribution there was a total of $27,510 to put towards completion of the project.

The Park Department also put about $10,000 into the project that was contract with Stone Ridge Landscaping.

For the casual visitor the kayak/canoe launch looks as if it is done and should be able to be used at this time, but the plantings in the area nearest the water still need to take root and grow a few more inches before they can handle kayaks being drug across them.  This is why the park department has set the opening date for later in September.  There are signs down in that area at this time to let folks know where they shouldn’t be walking.

Kayak Launch_3Shook said, “Construction went very well with no major glitches and we look forward to the public being able to use our newest amenity!”
