County news # 2Marshall County Highway Supervisor Jason Peters told the County Commissioners Monday that his department has been working on several items to complete before the winter weather arrives.

He said employees are working to finish up the shoulder work on roads that were paved this season.

Peters said County Highway employees will be putting shoulders  on Fir Road starting Thursday morning shortly after 8 a.m.  The county will have traffic control in place with flaggers and closing roadway intersection to intersection for the safety of workers and motorists.  It was estimated that this project will take about 4 days to complete.  Peters asked driver to try and avoid the area or plan to use an alternative route.   It was noted that emergency vehicles will be able to pass.

The Highway Supervisor said his employees have all completed trainings on Title 6, Internal Control, Marshall County Safety Procedures and Emergency Protective Measures.

Commissioner Kurt Garner asked Peters to look at a section of guardrail on old US 31, south of US 6 that appears to have been damaged during a crash.  Not only did he want to get it replaced but he wanted to make sure that if there is an accident report filed that the county can file an insurance claim for damages to pay for repairs.

Peters said he is working with the Sheriff’s Department and just received information from an accident that damaged a guardrail at Plymouth Goshen and Miami.  He said they did submit an insurance claim on that guardrail.

Peters told the commissioner he is working to keep up on these damages but when police aren’t called it’s had to track down the culprit.
