A private, invitation only dedication ceremony for the brand new Boys and Girls Club in Plymouth will take place this Thursday, March 15 at 2 pm.
The public Ribbon Cutting Ceremony will follow on March 15 at 5:30 pm followed by a community open house.
This $2.5 million project began on May 8, 2017 when demolition of the old building on East Jefferson Street started. A couple of months later, in July, Majority Builders began construction of the new 12,000 square foot facility. This new 2-story building has doubled the size and includes many more rooms. Executive Director Billie Treber said it will have 3 offices: executive, program and athletics; 10 restrooms, and 13 other rooms or spaces including the front desk, game room, art room, littles room, education, cafeteria, kitchen, teen rooms, program room and more. This new building has a couple of special features including a sensory room and the climbing wall.
Treber said the existing gymnasium was updated as well and they can now offer a space for visiting teams. It’s square footage is 10,000 square feet giving the Boys and Girls Club a total of 22,000 a nice increase from the 16,000 they previously had.
With the larger size also come new services. The Boys and Girls Club will now be able to offer their services to 5 thru 7 year olds, who will be known as “littles”. Members must be 5 years old and currently attending kindergarten. The annual enrollment fee is $50. If attending in the summer there is an additional charge of $80. Forms can be picked up at the club or you can download them from the Boys and Girls Club website at www.bgcmarshallcounty.com.
