City HallBids for the Plymouth City Hall Renovation Project were opened during the Redevelopment Commissioner meeting Tuesday evening.

City Attorney Sean Surrisi told members that bids were scheduled to be opened during the city meeting  last week but with the 4th of July holiday contractors were having trouble getting bid information from subcontractors.

Three companies submitted bids for the project which includes renovations on the main floor of City Hall and extensive changes on the second floor.  Also included in the project are extensive changes to the second floor of the Chamber of Commerce building and exterior improvements including roofing, windows, tuck pointing and painting.

Zolkowski Inc. from South Bend presented the highest bid at $2,728,000.  Gibson Lewis LLC from Mishawaka bid $2,654,100 and the lowest bid came from Michiana Contracting of Plymouth at $2,198,700.

The bids were taken under advisement for review by architect for the project RQAW.  The will make a recommendation at next month’s meeting on August 15th.

The Redevelopment Commission also motioned to give authority to enter into a purchase agreement with the Chamber of Commerce for $100,000 for the adjacent building.  While the two appraisals came in at $95,000 and $96,000 the Redevelopment Commission can pay over the appraisals by making a determination on the record to do so.  Surrisi said this was one of the terms the city was able to come together with for the Chamber Board’s approval.

It’s anticipated the closing on the building will be August 15th.
