MugShot_Vincent CarnegieVinnie Carnegie was arrested by county police Friday morning, lodged in the Marshall County Jail on 7 charges and held on a $100,000 cash bond.

Carnegie’s arrested stems from a couple of incidents that happened on Friday, May 26th.

According to court documents county police officers were dispatched to the 11,000 block of Michigan Road just before 6 in the morning for two suspicious subjects.  Officer Andrew Wozniak heard a female scream “Help me!” and saw a woman later identified as T.M. (WTCA is using initials to protect her identity) running toward him barefoot, in pajama pants and a sweatshirt and her hands in handcuffs in front of her.

T.M. was emotional and crying and told the officer Vinnie Carnegie had assaulted her, handcuffed her and kidnapped her, forcing her into a vehicle and drove her to Cindy’s Restaurant then turned around and took her back to the residence in the 11,000 block of Michigan Road where she was able to flee from him.

Officers attempted to locate Carnegie at T.M.’s residence but were unsuccessful.  County officers went to Carnegie’s home at 553 Walnut Street in Argos about 8:30 in the morning and observed the vehicle he had been driving in the driveway.  He did not answer the door but when officers called his cell he did answer and said he was heading to Plymouth.  He also told them he heard scanner traffic and knew they were looking for him.  Carnegie told officers he was going to kill himself.

While officers were attempting to locate Mr. Carnegie, Detective Leo Mangus with the Plymouth Police Department observed the vehicle Carnegie was driving at 9089 King Road about 10:20 Friday morning.  Mangus saw him running south towards the Pilot Truck Stop.  A search of the area located Carnegie lying face down in the tree line weeds hiding.  As he jumped up officers observed a handgun in his right hand and this is where the police stand-off began.  Several times Carnegie placed the gun to his head or chest and threatened to kill himself.   About 11:45 officers physically attempted to take the gun from Carnegie and used a Taser in an attempt to incapacitate him.  During the struggle Carnegie’s gun discharged and he shot himself in the chest.  He was transported to Memorial Hospital in South Bend.

Securing a search warrant for the vehicle Carnegie was driving, officers located T.M.’s cell phone and a scanner in the vehicle along with a cloth he had used to cover her face.

Mr. Carnegie was released from the hospital in South Bend on Friday morning, June 2nd and taken into custody by Marshall County Detective Duane Culp.   He is currently being held in the Marshall County Jail for Kidnapping-Confinement a level 5 felony, Burglary a level 4 felony, Theft a level 6 felony, Domestic Battery a class A misdemeanor, Auto Theft a level 6 felony, Resisting Law Enforcement a level 6 felony and Pointing a Firearm a level 6 felony.
