Boys of Summer action resumed Friday night, as the Bremen Lions traveled to Ed Hess Field to play the Emergency Service’s Plymouth 10u baseball club. This, the second game of a home-and-away series, saw the Pilgrims beat Bremen 5-8, winning both games.

The cool, crisp wind was swirling at first pitch; Plymouth starter Caleb Bowling began with two quick strikeouts and a ground ball out to retire the side. Plymouth bats came out hot. After a Jak Chaney walk and a Trey Delp single, Preston Jessen broke the scoreless tie with a laser to centerfield, scoring Chaney from second base. Two batters latter it was Bowling’s turn plating Delp and Jessen with a bullet to leftfield. At the end of the first Big Red led 0-3.

Bremen answered Plymouth’s quick strike with a run in the top of the second; Landon Bates grounded out in a fielder’s choice scoring Chase Devine from third base. Answering Bremen’s run was Trey Delp with an RBI in the bottom of the second, ending the inning, Bremen trailing 1-4.

Bowling worked a nearly perfect top of the third, finishing his night with three innings pitched, giving up one run, striking out four Bremen batters. Big Red added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Pilgrim rally came with four two-out walks, seeing Alex Harding walk in a run. Following a pitching a change, Malachi Sieh laced a single up the middle scoring two more Pilgrims and busting open the game, Plymouth leading 1-7.

The Lions came roaring back, scoring two runs in the fourth and fifth innings shrinking Plymouth’s lead to just two runs, 5-7.

After a Bremen error, Big Red would tack on another run via a Jack Christiansen RBI single, stretching their lead by three, 5-8, heading into the last inning. Blake Mackey entered the game in relief, striking out three Lions, ending the game and picking up his first save of the season.

Caleb Bowling earned his second win of the season going three innings, surrendering one run and striking out four Lion batters. Christiansen completed two innings for the hold, giving up one hit and striking out one. Jeffery Schmucher took the loss for Bremen, throwing two and two-thirds innings, surrendering seven runs on five hits.

Leading Plymouth at the plate were Bowling, Jessen, Sieh and Christiansen, each with multi-hit, RBI performances.
