Bremen_Police_black SUVBremen Police Chief Matt Hassel released the department’s activity report for August 14th through the 20th.

Officers from the Bremen Police Department issued a total of 44 traffic warnings and 10 traffic citations.  They also investigated three property damage accidents; on the 15th in the McDonald’s parking lot, on the 17th in the Party Pack parking lot and on the 20th at the intersection of South and Jackson Streets.

Bremen officers made five arrests during the reporting period.  On August 14th Kenneth W. Bernard of Elkhart was arrested for driving while suspended with a prior charge.  On the 15th, Christopher L. Scott of Bremen was arrested for domestic battery in the presence of a child while Richard J. Andrews of Waterloo was arrested on the 17th for operating while intoxicated .15% or above, operating while intoxicated endangering a person and leaving the scene of a property damage accident.  Also on the 17th Axel Orellana Sandoval of South Bend was arrested for operator never licensed and on the 19th Richard Lee Pettry of Indianapolis was arrested for driving while suspended with a prior charge.

There were four Bremen fire calls between August 14th and the 20th.  On August 14th they assisted Madison Township for a vehicle crash with injuries.  On the 16th fire fighters responded to 2100 4C Road for a carbon monoxide detector alarm and on the 19th the report of a fire at LMK Leasing at 617 East Plymouth Street.  The final fire call was August 20th at Bremen High School for a general fire alarm.

Listeners and readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
