Fulton_County_Sheriff_crash3-10-15_1Rochester – Tuesday morning at approximately 7:40 a.m., officers from the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department, the Rochester Police Department, and the Indiana State Police responded to a two vehicle crash on State Road 25 near Fulton County Road 100 South, involving an on duty Fulton County Sheriff’s deputy.

The preliminary crash investigation by Trooper Chuck Meyer revealed that Fulton County Sheriff’s Deputy Don Shriver was driving a 2009 Ford Expedition police vehicle northbound on State Road 25, near County Road 100 South. Officer Shriver had exited the Fulton County Highway Facility on the eastside of State Road 25. The Expedition was rear-ended by a northbound 1998 Ford F-150 pickup truck, driven by Mathias Gaumer, 48, Monticello, IN.  Gaumer allegedly fell asleep and did not brake before crashing.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts, which Trooper Meyer believes prevented injuries in the crash.

Gaumer was issued two citations for following another vehicle too closely and failure to provide proof of financial responsibility.

Trooper Meyer was assisted with the crash investigation by ISP Sergeant Rick Brown and Trooper Kyle Miller.
