PLYMOUTH – As has been the case for the season so far it was defense that was the name of the game for Plymouth’s Lady Pilgrims in taking a 62-36 win over Bremen.

Plymouth was able to force 21 first half turnovers and a total of 34 in the game in a defensive onslaught that had the Lady Lions on their heels for much of the night.

“I think our kids dictated their kids early in the game and we generated some points off of that too,” said Plymouth coach Dave Duncan. “I’ll say this a million times, it’s Allie’s pressure up front. She’s a hard player to play against. She makes people very uncomfortable with the basketball and they make bad decisions because of it.”

“It gives our kids a chance to get a little more in the passing lanes when they can play off her.”

Wright continues to be a one player, full court press as she was able to grab eight steals in the game, part of 20 in the game for Plymouth and make anyone in green uncomfortable with the basketball.

Some solid shooting from the perimeter in the first half, particularly by Haley Harrell gave her 10 points on the night and gave Plymouth a big lead at half time.

“When our kids swing the ball and she can get her feet set it’s going to go down,” said Duncan. “I’m kind of surprised because our kids are tired right now. That’s four games in eight days.”

In the second half senior Hunter Stevens poured in 10 points in the third quarter alone to give Plymouth what amounted to an insurmountable lead.

“She flashes that middle so well and she is so athletic when she gets it she puts a lot of pressure on the defense,” said Duncan. “She went around people and finished her shots.”

Duncan now finds his team unbeaten after five games with the start of the NLC season looming in Decmber.

“I think we felt we had a chance to be here,” said Duncan. “I don’t think any coach is totally satisfied with where his team is at a particular point so far as needing to work on things. Obviously we’re going to continue to talk about defense and rebounding. Those are things we need to emphasize.”

Plymouth is 5-0. Bremen falls to 0-4.
