The barricades on the west bound lane of East Jefferson Street on the bridge over the Yellow River are not for the Metronet Conduit Instillation Project but for a major issue recently realized.
County Commissioner Kevin Overmyer said, “This was found when they were preparing to install the conduit for the Metronet project.”
On Friday Overmyer met with City Engineer Rick Gaul at the site. Their inspection revealed that a city storm sewer may have collapsed under the bridge apron on the west side of the bridge.
There is significant erosion undermining the pavement which has caused a large crack in the concrete.
The County will need to work with the city on this project since it appears it’s their sewer which has collapsed and has caused erosion issue.
There may be the need for emergency action to remedy the problem
