02/21/14 Mr. Mike Miley from Gibson Insurance presented renewals of the county’s property and casualty policies for 2014 at the Commissioners meeting Monday.  The renewal reflects an increase of approximately $13,500 in the total annual premium from $440,272 in 2013 to $453,794 for 2014.  Miley reviewed the five-year premium and loss summary, which indicated that the largest areas of increase were auto liability and workers’ compensation claims.  In an effort to reduce accidents, Bliss-McKnight provided simulator training to officers with the Sheriff’s Department.

Miley explained that the 2014 Workers Comp experience modification rate has decreased, but it will increase next year when the 2009 low will be replaced by a higher 2010 claim experience.  The actual premium increased this year since it is based on the state rate that does not reflect the county’s experience modification.

Miley encouraged the County to focus on reducing workers’ comp claims, and said the County’s Safety Committee serves an important role in educating the county employees with ongoing training and emergency drills.  He did recommend establishing an accident review committee to review causes of accidents to help prevent recurrence.

The County Commissioners thanked Mr. Miley for his participation on the Safety Committee and for the excellent representation he provides the county in his capacity with Gibson.
