12/05/13 “Plymouth and Marshall County will form a committee to look out for the area’s interestsĀ as planning and construction on U.S. 31 continue.”

The initial construction on U.S. 31 was designed to take place in three phases – phase one in Howard County near Kokomo, phase two in Plymouth stretching to South Bend and phase three through Hamilton County.

There are still three other phases of the road planned, one of which will go through Miami and Fulton Counties and connect with the current Plymouth section.

Plymouth Plan Director Ralph Booker told the Plymouth Plan Commission that a local committee was forming to work with a current organization – the U.S. 31 Coalition – that will seek to give Marshall County input to the Indiana Department of Transportation.

Booker pointed out that Kokomo had been able to get an extra intersection and other improvements for their community by being involved in the process with INDOT officials.

Booker encouraged the Plan Commission to also seek a voice on the committee and said that Marshall County government officials were working on its formation.
