08/09/13  The 11th Annual Pack-A-Backpack Program sponsored by Plymouth FOP Lodge 195 is wrapping up with the beginning of another school year starting next week.

“Donations were amazing this year,” Hurshel Hunter, President of the FOP said.  More than 700 backpacks were distributed to the various schools in Marshall County.  Hunter said, “Without the generosity of the citizens in Marshall County we couldn’t do this.”

This year the FOP had a goal of 700 backpacks and they were able to surpass that.  On Tuesday FOP members and volunteers gathered backpacks and supplies from the businesses who were gracious enough to allow collection boxes to be placed in their businesses (Bellmart BP, Dollar General Stores in Plymouth, Martin’s Supermarket, the Moose Lodge, Opie’s Deli, Fernbaugh’s Diamonds, WTCA and Oliver Ford) They took all the supplies to the American Legion and sorted the supplies into the various items.  Then the process of filling each backpack was started.

Although plenty of backpacks were gathered and lots of school supplies, there is a shortage of folders, wide-lines spiral notebooks and pencils are still needed.

If you would still like to give you may drop off your school supplies at here at WTCA or if you drop them off at Oliver Ford before the close of business on Friday and spend $5 or more will you be entered into a drawing for a Diamond Vacation Give-away.  One entry for every $5 of school supplies donated.  The vacation includes a trip to Vegas with air fare, a Carnival Cruise or a stay in Cancun.

Members of Plymouth FOP Lodge 195 want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped to make this year’s Pack-A-Backpack a huge success.
