06/13/13 City Engineer Rick Gaul announced a traffic flow modification for East LaPorte Street and Water Street to accommodate construction work for River Park Square.
Last week Michiana Contracting Inc. began construction of the first phase of River Park Square. The first order of business was to remove a part of the asphalt parking lot that the Farmers’ Market was using. They also removed East LaPorte Street between River and Water Streets.
To accommodate construction the traffic pattern will be limited on Water and LaPorte Streets. Water Street will be one way, southbound, between Garro and LaPorte Street and LaPorte Street between Water and Michigan Street will be limited to westbound traffic only. This will create a clockwise traffic flow with parking on the west side of Water and on the north side of LaPorte in this area.
As posted, two hour parking will remain in effect to provide customer access to the businesses in the affected area. Gaul said, “This traffic pattern will remain in effect until further notice.”
