Encore Performing Arts Announces 2012 Season

12/21/11 Earlier this month Encore Performing Arts held an Open House at the new Heartland Artist Gallery on West LaPorte Street in downtown Plymouth.  Their open house was to announce the 2012 season.

The very popular Dinner & Music Series sponsored by Plymouth Foundry and held at the beautiful Country Club will feature three performances and next year the series is spread out throughout the year.  A Valentine’s Day treat will be cabaret singer, Shannon Forsell from Indy.  On Monday, May 7^th the woodwind quintet Lake Effect Winds from southwestern Michigan will provide the entertainment.  The final in the series is Tuesday, October 9^th with The Euclid Quartet from South Bend. 

The Music In The Park Series at the Young Amphitheater in Centennial Park opens on Friday, June 29^th with a return of the Parrots of the Caribbean, the number one Jimmy Buffett tribute act in the country.  On Friday, July 6^th Alligator Blackbird. PHS graduate Fabian Guzman is a member of the group.  Their music is a combination of rock, reggae, folk, and pop.  On Friday, July 20^th Southside Denny and the Snyder’s, the extremely popular South Bend band will entertain. Also featured in July with a date to be announced will be Shakespeare on the lawn by The Young Company which is part of the Notre Dame Shakespeare Festival. 

The final two performances for Music In The Park are Saturday, August 11^th with local singer, songwriter, and storyteller, George Schricker and his new group Wild Rose Moon and a return performance of Danny barber’s Jazz Cats on Friday, August 24^th. 

Encore Performing Arts is helping to expand One Book/One Town through the Plymouth Public Library.  The selected novel Shiloh was chosen in honor of the 150^th anniversary of the Battle of Shiloh.  Events include an afternoon tea kicking off a Civil Conversation.  On March 13^th Daniel Kincaid as The Irish Volunteer, a concert of Irish American Civil War songs, and on March 18^th a public lecture by Robert Herr on the Battle of Shiloh and the Indiana Volunteers. 

One Book/One Town continues into April with a virtual book club throughout the month at the high school and junior high. A celebration on April 6^th and 7^th honoring the 150^th anniversary of the Battle of Shiloh I s followed on April 13^th and 14^th with a living history event.   April 22^nd will be a community-wide book discussion on the book Shiloh: A Novel and the 24^th and 25^th Debra Conner presents Mary Edwards Walker, the only female surgeon who served during the Civil War.
