07/22/11 Culver Union Township Public Library, located at 107 North Main Street, Culver, IN, was one of six libraries in the nation to win a Tantor Audio “June is Audiobook Month” essay contest.

CUTPL was one of six libraries including Sodus Township Library, North Wales Area Library, Springfield Township Library in Delaware County, Bloomfield Public Library and Beaman Library @ Lipscomb University. CUTPL won ten free audiobooks from Tantor.

According to its web site, “Tantor Audio has grown from a three person operation in California into a leading independent audiobook publisher, producing more than 50 new titles every month, in just ten years. Now located in two facilities in Old Saybrook, Connecticut, Tantor’s talented team of associates, and over 70 of the industry’s best narrators, are dedicated to providing the highest quality audio experience, all for the best value. Tantor’s formula for success starts with must-have authors and award-winning titles. Tantor’s extensive catalog includes Man Booker, Pulitzer, and National Book Award winners, as well as countless New York Times bestsellers and titles with starred reviews from all the major publications. Tantor then adds the most popular and talented narrators to the mix, taking care to match the right voice to each book. The end result is award-winning audio. Tantor is the recipient of numerous Audie Awards, AudioFile Earphones Awards, Publishers Weekly Listen-Up Awards, and starred audio reviews. Another key to Tantor’s formula is audio innovation. Using proprietary software designed specifically for audiobook recording combined with print-on-demand technology, Tantor is able to quickly deliver today’s hottest titles, in multiple formats, often simultaneous with the hardcover release.”

Library Director Colleen McCarty says that “Audiobooks are a very popular item at the Library, and we are always looking to increase our collection. We welcome this opportunity to increase our offerings for our patrons with these fine-quality Tantor audios. Our special thanks go to Reference and Adult Services Librarian Jon Gaskill who submitted the winning essay.”

The essay topic was “What the Library does for the community and why they should win free audiobooks.” CUTPL would like to express its gratitude to Tantor for being chosen as one of the winners.
