05/26/11The Plymouth Chapter of Kiwanis raised nearly $4,600 in donations this past weekend during their annual Peanut Days fundraiser.

36 members of the local civic organization were out in force at the intersection of Jefferson and Michigan on Friday and Saturday asking for donations from drivers in exchange for a bag of peanuts.  Kiwanians were also at the entrance of Kroger’s and Wal-Mart.

Peanut Committee Chairman Tom Sibal said “We had another great Peanut Days weekend with a dedicated group of volunteers.   It’s wonderful to see how generous the people of Marshall County are in helping raise money for some great causes. We received a number of large bills this year, including a $50.00. That says a lot about our community!”

Funds raised from this event stay entirely local and provide money for Kiwanis to award scholarships to Plymouth and Argos High School students as well as a variety of other charitable causes such as the local Boys and Girls Club.

Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world, one child and once community at a time. The Plymouth Kiwanis meet each Tuesday at noon at Christo’s Banquet Center in Plymouth and interested new members are always welcome. For more information contact Tom Sibal at 935-8442.
