04/11/11 A ground breaking ceremony was held for the latest Garden Court project in Culver. President of the Board, Rev. Ronald Liechty welcomed everyone to the event. The Culver Garden Court project will build 13 senior apartments with a community room and other common areas at 701 South Main Street. Elizabeth Barrett, representing Congressman Donnelly, thanked Garden Court for their hard work building safe, decent, and affordable housing for low income seniors. Ginny Bess, Culver Town Board President, reiterated the town’s support for the project.
This will be the 12th Garden Court project. Currently, there are 320 units in the 11 other projects and a waiting list of 180 people. Garden Court has facilities in Marshall, Starke, and Kosciusko Counties and will be applying for a project in Nappanee later this year. Ron Liechty said: “The policy of the Garden Court Board of Directors is to build facilities that the Board would want their parents, grandparents, or themselves to live in. We have been looking for a location in Culver for 15 years and are glad we are now building in Culver.”
Culver Garden Court is funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The Architect is BA Martin Architects, Plymouth, Indiana. The contractor is Easterday Construction, Culver, Indiana. The management company is Real Estate Management, South Bend, Indiana. Interested seniors may call Fairfield Garden Court at 574-935-3600 for information on renting. The Culver project will be ready for occupancy in early 2012.
