03/02/11 Marshall County Coroner Bill Cleavenger said Tuesday that the Indiana Death Registration System that required all death certificates to be filed electronically after January 1st of this year is working well in Marshall County.
Cleavenger stated, “There has been little or none of the problems that were publicized earlier this year, especially in St. Joseph County.” He continued, “I feel that most of our success in Marshall County has been due to the great cooperation of our physicians, funeral directors and deputy coroners to get involved in the system early, well before the January 1st deadline.”
He states further that the system is not without faults, but the State of Indiana continues to work and develop solutions to problems that do arise from time to time. In most cases where the manner and cause of death can quickly and easily determined, a certified death certificate can be filed and registered easily within two to three days according to Cleavenger.
Source’s in St. Joseph County reported difficulty in getting cremation authorizations in certain instances, but Cleavenger said that he is not aware of any such cases in Marshall County.
