Members of the Marshall County Council spend another day reviewing the individual budgets for 2011.
Once again some department heads plead their cases. Prosecutor David Holmes came prepared with graphs and comparisons show the County’s need for an additional Deputy Prosecutor. He said, “When looking at the case load, it is clear that we are under staffed.”
Dennis Elliott, the County Building Inspector said he has kept the same budget he had in 2009 and 2010. He also again suggested reducing the full-time position to a part-time position due to the reduction in building in the county.
Many of the department heads presenting their budget had flat-lined them and only a few asked for new positions or the opportunity to fill a vacancy.
The County Council listened intently and made no cuts and no indications of the cuts or types of cuts they plan to make on the 2011 budget. Council President Matt Hassel told members they have two weeks of hard work ahead of them. He encouraged members to again review the budget line by line and determine what items they feel should be cut the meet the goal amount of $387,000.
The County Council will meet on Monday, September 13th at 9 a.m. and begin the process of cutting the budget following by the budget adoption. They will also conduct the non-binding reviews of the budgets of other taxing entities within the county.
