Thursday evening two organizations were benefactors of the generosity of Plymouth American Legion Post 27.
Julian Keiser presented a check in the amount of $12,000 to representatives of the Heminger House; executive board member Laura Mann, case manager Dian Fisher and Annie Wojcik executive director.
The Heminger House Shelter for Woman and Children service women and their children who are victims of domestic abuse. Since opening in 2008 the shelter has never been empty. The shelter has helped more than 952 victims work towards a life of independence, safety and happiness.
To operate fully at Heminger House, they need funding for programs, food, emergency clothing, monthly utility bills including the security and video system, phone bill for the hotline, staff salaries, and internet access, so that they can be up to date with the sex offenders’ registry and other programs. It averages out to $3,000 a week.

The second benefactor was the Riley Gear Run who is raising money for Riley Children’s Hospital. The Plymouth American Legion donated $5,000 to this year’s run.
Full-time firefighter from Plymouth, John Pasley was on hand along with other runners representing Walkerton, Polk and LaPaz fire departments.
Emotionally Pasley said, “I appreciate this from the bottom of my heart.” He continued, “This will help so many children just like Hannah Jacobs.
Fighting back the tears Pasley explained why he was running again this year. “Last year I fell on the way back in at Michigan and Oak Hill and decided it would be my last year. Since then I was on a call where twin boys were born pre-maturely and we worked on them at the ER trying to get them to breath. They just couldn’t breathe good enough to sustain life.” John Pasley said, “I’m running this year for the kids who never make it to Riley.”
