DONALDSON, IN – In their home opener, the Ancilla College soccer team defeated NJCAA #9 Schoolcraft College 2-1.

The Chargers remained undefeated in Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) play, while picking up three points, which hoists them into sole possession of first place in the conference.

Ancilla started off very impressively and almost took the lead with a diving header in the third minute from Dominic Harris, which missed to the right of the goal. The Chargers kept the pressure up throughout the first half and came in even at 0-0. The second half started at the same speed as the first. Schoolcraft capitalized on a defensive error by Ancilla to take the lead in the 48th minute by Romario Georgis. Twelve minutes later, Nakilee Weni scored an equalizer from the edge of the 18 yard box with a strike into the top right hand corner of the goal. The breakthrough came when Ignacio Aviles played a through ball to Nick Bennett, who slotted the ball under the on-rushing goalkeeper to send the Ancilla team into raptures, celebrating Ancilla’s first ever victory over Schoolcraft.

“I was very proud of my players today,” said Ancilla coach Adam Hall. “They worked their socks off in that ninety degree heat. We moved the ball around extremely well and I felt we had control for around ninety percent of the game, limiting Schoolcraft to long balls and very few chances. Hopefully we can take this form into the Jackson game and continue our winning streak.”

Ancilla travels to Jackson College on Sunday, September 1:00 p.m. start.
