Trent Briles did all he could to give Plymouth a boost, but it wasn’t enough to get past Goshen, as Plymouth lost 8-6 in seven innings at Goshen on Wednesday.
Plymouth was led by Briles‘ hitting. Briles went 3-4 and scored two runs. He singled in the fourth and fifth innings and doubled in the seventh inning.
Jorge Pizana got the win for Goshen. He allowed two runs over four innings. Pizana struck out three, walked four and gave up five hits.
Goshen was sparked by Austin Henke and Sylas Buller, who teamed up for three hits and three RBIs.
Plymouth jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Chase Peters started the rally for Plymouth with a single. A single by Joe Knapp then moved Peters from first to third. Then a sacrifice fly by Connor Flynn scored Peters.
The game was never in doubt after the first, as Goshen scored two runs on an RBI double by Buller and a fielder’s choice.
Goshen pushed across three runs in both the third inning and the fifth. In the third, Goshen scored on a walk by Wamen Kay, bringing home Buller.
A one-run fourth inning helped bring Plymouth within three. A walk by Flynn triggered Plymouth‘s comeback. Pizana ended the inning by getting Jacob Seagraves to strike out.
Goshen tacked on another three runs in the fifth. A triple by Henke ignited the offense,, bringing home Kay and Tyler Slagel. That was followed up by Pizana’s single, plating Henke.
Four runs in the top of the seventh helped Plymouth close its deficit to 8-6. A hit by pitch, an RBI single by Knapp, and a two-run single by Flynn fueled Plymouth‘s comeback. Goshen closed the game out when Casey Looker got Seagraves to.
