02/23/12  Dave Cox has tenured his resignation, announcing his retirement after 20 seasons as Head Coach of the Plymouth Girls’ Basketball Program.

“It’s been an honor to be Head Coach of this program, and watch it grow over the 20 years I’ve been at the helm.   I feel we have developed  a great tradition of Girls basketball here at Plymouth.  I just simply felt the time was right for me move on in my life, focus on family…..and to just enjoy life to its fullest.”

Prior to being hired as head girls’ coach at Plymouth High School, Cox spent a combined 6 years in the Triton, Caston and Plymouth feeder systems.

Coach Cox’s varsity record was 308-152, highlighted by four NLC Championships, nine 3A Sectional Championships, two 3A Regional Championships, two 3A Semi-State Championships, 2001 3A State Runner-Up, and 2008 3A State Champions.  Coach Cox was named the ICGSA 3A State Coach of the Year.

Coach Cox’s very first season was in 1992-93 when he finished 4-15.   The following 12-9 season in ’93-’94 lead to 18 straight seasons of double-digit wins until this year’s 6-15 mark.

“I’ve had so many great kids come through this program, it’s amazing.   Reaching the State Finals twice, winning all the Sectionals and what not.   It’s just been a great ride here in Plymouth.   The administration has been so supportive over the years which made the job a little easier for me.”, said Cox.   “I’ve had a great coaching staff, led by Dave Duncan who I owe so much too.  I have former players on my staff coaching these kids now.   I have truly been blessed.”

Dave was the 15th winning-est active coach in Indiana.  Coach Cox initiated a Plymouth indoor / outdoor summer league basketball program in 1993 that grew to over 85 teams / 874 participants across Northern Indiana.

Dave completes his career as the winning-est coach in Plymouth High School girl’s basketball history.

Coach Cox will join WTCA this Saturday morning for a final time on the Coaches Corner at 8am.
