Members of the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety approved several requests during Monday evening’s meeting.
Plymouth Fire Chief Rod Miller was granted permission to send two full-time firefighters to the Indiana State Fire Investigator I class that will be held at the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department. Mike Jernstrom and Chuy Garcia will attend the training at a cost of $684.13 each.
Plymouth Police Chief Dave Bacon was given approval to begin the quote process to purchase the two squad cares in the 2018 budget. He also requested approval for K9 Officer John Weir to apply for a Community Foundation grant to start building funds to purchase a new K9 for the department.
Bacon said, “In the past we’ve always relied on donations for the purchase of the dog and then yearly we budget a maintenance amount for the care.” He said a dog costs $16,000 and Officer Weir would like to use donations and grants to gather funds to replace Jax probably later this year.
The Board of Public Works and Safety also scheduled an interview session of two corporal positions. There are eight officers interested in the two positions and the board assists the chief in making the promotion decisions. He did say there are also 2 sergeant positions open but you must be a corporal to qualify and he has two corporals for move up in rank. The interviews will be Monday, January 29th at 6 p.m.
