Plymouth Rockies football dropped to 1-1 on the season with a loss at #9 (4A) Columbia City Friday, 42-14. Headed back home Friday for a Week 3 game in front of a Blueberry Festival the Rockies know the beginning of the Northern Lakes Conference schedule starts with visiting Warsaw.

The Tigers have been receiving votes in the 6A poll with wins narrow wins over Michigan City and Chesterton.

Including the Eagles last week, Plymouth has five opponents on the schedule ranked among the top 10 in their respective classes. Warsaw isn’t far behind, ranked #17 in 6A.

Ben Davis sits atop the current 6A poll followed by three-time defending 6A champ Center Grove. The Trojans dropped from preseason number one after an opening week loss at the Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, to St. Edward (OH) and last week, defeating Oakland (Tennessee). St. Edward and Oakland have combined for five consecutive state championships in their respective states and classes.

FW Snider holdS down the top spot in 5A followed by Merrillville. 5A defending state champ Valparaiso is fifth this week tied with the team the Vikings defeated in last year’s state championship, Whiteland. The Warriors tumbled from number two with a loss Friday to #2 (4A) Kokomo, 27-13.

Kokomo is situated behind the state’s defending 4A champion, East Central, who sits atop the poll again this week. Northwood is tied with Evansville Memorial at number 4. Northridge is eighth this week with Columbia City at #9.

Indianapolis Chatard is the top team in 3A. Hanover Central is ranked sixth.

In 2A, Triton Central takes over the top spot. The Tigers will play in Indianapolis Friday against the three-time defending 1A champion Lutheran Saints in a key game that could determine the conference champion in the Indiana Crossroads. Lutheran is riding a 32-game win streak and is the top-ranked team in 1A again this week.

Also in 2A, LaVille is ranked eighth. In 1A, Adams Central is ranked second behind Lutheran. The Flying Jets lost the 1A title game to Lutheran last season.

North Judson is ranked fourth in this week’s 1A poll. The Bluejays get their first test of the season with a road trip to Culver Academy on Friday.
