The Plymouth Rockies Boys Varsity Soccer were at the St. Joseph Shootout Saturday leaving with a tie against St. Joe and a win against top state-ranked Mishawaka Marian.
Whereas the other two teams only played one game each, Plymouth would play two games the same day, playing the second game against Marian.
In game one against St Joe, Plymouth would come out with a hard-earned 1-1 tie against the Indians.
Plymouth would score first in the first half as Ariel Romero fired a super volley into the net from a Jose Rosas cross. It would remain 1-0 at the half.
In the second half, the Rockies showed signs of playing so many games the past week and from last week’s double game Saturday. The Rockies slowed allowed the Indians back in and they scored in the second half.
The Rockies then attempted to strike back as Selvin Pagoada fired six shots on goal and Ariel Romero another four shots on goal. It was not to be however and the score would finish 1-1.
In the second game of the day, a tired and beat up Rockies team would beat the top-ranked Mishawaka Marian Knights 2-1.
Having lost starter Adrian Cardona to an injury and many players playing with knocks and strains, the Rockies overcame the odds and played a fabulous game. Selvin Pagoada would score two goals in this game continuing his hot form. Mishawaka would open the scoring but as we know this Rockies team hates to lose and the Rockies would strike back through Selvin Pagoada with a goal close to half time.
The halftime score would be Mishawaka Marian 1 Plymouth 1. The second half would be very contentious and the Rockies would summon all they had left to give and would strike the goal with Selvin Pagoada again.
Leading the team in goals, Selvin scored a beautiful unassisted goal. That would be that as the Rockies hunkered down and endured a lot of pressure but protected their lead to finish the game Mishawaka Marian 1 Plymouth 2.
This was a very important win for the Rockies as they beat two state-ranked teams in one week!
Next up for the Rockies is an away game Tuesday night against Culver Military Academy. JV starts at 5:30 and Varsity starts at 7:00.
