NewsThe Bourbon Town Council has been exploring ways to include the youth of the community in their decisions that benefit all of the citizens. Council member Les McFarland began meeting with Triton High School administrators several months ago to design a program whereby students could get a first-hand look at how the council makes decisions as well as get the opinions of students on matters that directly affect them. The student would be a non-voting member.

According to Triton Schools Superintendent, Jeremy Riffle, eight students had indicated interest and from the eight, four completed the application process.  While the student who will sit with the Bourbon Town Council hasn’t been selected yet, it was noted that they must reside within the Town of Bourbon to be eligible.

The next step in the selection process will be interviews followed by voting from the teaching staff.

It was mutually decided between the council and Triton Superintendent Jeremy Riffle that one senior and one junior would be selected to serve until the end of the school year. In subsequent years, there will only be one student representative.
