Genealogy 101Monty Peden’s Genealogy 101 classes were so popular last year that they are being offered again this year at the Plymouth Public Library.  The classes run on four Tuesdays starting February 18.  Sign up soon, space is limited to 15 per class.   Interested parties may choose between afternoon and early evening classes.

There is a bonus class session on Tuesday, March 17 at 6:00 P.M. at the Historical Society Museum where Karin Rettinger will introduce the resources available in the genealogy library and how the staff can help researchers.   Anita Kopetski will also give a talk that evening on “What To Do Before You Go to Fort Wayne.”  Fort Wayne is the second largest genealogy research facility in the country.

Sign up is at the Plymouth Public Library and the classes are 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. or 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.  The $25 course fee includes a fat binder full of course materials compiled especially for this class.  The classes are a jointly offered by the Plymouth Public Library and Marshall County Historical Society.

In April there are three field trips offered to the Gen. 101 students and members of the Marshall County Genealogical Society:
April 14,  All day.  Field trip to St. Joseph County Archives (9:00), South Bend Library (10:00), Notre Dame’s Hesburgh Library (11:30), and Mishawaka Library (2:00); Lunch at Bob Evans. For Genealogy 101 students and MCGS members.  Leave Plymouth at 8:20.  Back home about 4.
April 21,  All day.  Field trip to Elkhart County Historical Society Research Library at Bristol (9:00), Tour of the Elkhart County Historical Museum (9:30), Goshen Public Library (1:00), and Goshen College Mennonite History Library (2:00 Leave Plymouth at 7:50.   Back home about 4.
April 28,  All day.  Field Trip to Allen County Public Library for a full day of research in the country’s #2 research facility; For Genealogy 101 students and MCGS members.  Leave Plymouth at 7:30 a.m.

Carpools will be formed at the parking lot west of the Plymouth Library.  Monty Peden and Anita Kopetski are escorting the groups.  Each field trip has a $5 sign-up fee and a lunch stop on the agenda.  Attendees are responsible to pay for their own lunch.
