Emergency responders were dispatched Tuesday afternoon at 2:08 to the intersection of U.S. 30 and Plymouth Goshen Trail for a crash involving a passenger vehicle and a semi.
The passenger car, a gray Honda Accord was attempting to cross over U.S. 30 north bound and pulled into the path of an east bound Peterbilt semi.
Marshall County Sheriff’s Deputy Justin Gorney investigated the crash which killed a South Bend woman, 44 year old Dorcas Hernandez Figueroa.
One victim, the passenger in the car, Figueroa’s daughter was air lifted from the airport and transported to Memorial Hospital in South Bend. She was admitted for observation in ICU.
All four lanes of U.S. 30 were at a stand still for about an hour and then one west bound lane was opened. East bound traffic was opened shortly after.
A family pet dog was in the vehicle at the time of the crash. A passerbyer secured the dog in their vehicle and police are now looking for the driver of a yellow Hummer who was assisting paramedics at the scene.
The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, Plymouth Police Department, Indiana State Police, Plymouth EMS & Fire Lyon’s Towing and INDOT assisted at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department.
