NewsLast week the Marshall County Board of Zoning Appeals took action on a request to amend a dog kennel permit on 5b Road from 12 dogs to 45 dogs.

David Slabaugh appeared at the June BZA meeting with the request to increase the number of mature Goldendoodles and Boxer dogs in his kennel from 12 to 45 along with their litters of puppies who would remain until 8 weeks of age.

The BZA questioned had concerns of how the manure from the dogs would be handled and asked Slabaugh to come back to the August meeting with a business plan and a determination of how he would handle solid waste from the dogs.

Three letters were read opposing the Special Use and one in favor.  It was also noted that Nancy Cox from the Humane Society and County Plan Director Ty Adley made an unexpected visit to the site and were very pleased with the operation.

After reviewing the business plan and hearing that Mr. Slabaugh has agreed to comply with the state’s regulations on handling the dog waste the County Board of Zoning Appeals voted 5 to 0 to approve the amendment to the current Special Use as long as the business operates under the business plan presented and following the Technical Review Committee’s (TRC) recommendations.
