Jack Jordan state RepIndiana State Representative Jack Jordan (R-Bremen) reminds Hoosiers of the need to put safety first when visiting bodies of water.

Jordan said, “With 114 deaths caused by drowning in Indiana in 2017 and several drownings already this year, everyone needs to follow important safety tips.”

  • Always wear a lifejacket and make children wear them;
  • Always tell someone where you are going and when you will return;
  • Go with a buddy;
  • Never venture around flooded or fast moving waterways; and
  • Avoid alcohol.

Lifejackets are for everyone. According to the Department of Natural Resources, the highest percentage of drowning victims are above age 20. Wearing a life jacket can prevent most water tragedies.
